The Letter

This is the letter I sent to the airports, (they haven’t gotten back yet, I’m going to send it again).

Dear airports,

I know you work hard doing safety checks before flights, offering food and drinks, and if needed helping with oxygen masks/leading passengers to exit doors. But some airports say “Ladies and gentleman” (and if you don’t say ladies and gentlemen feel free to throw this letter in the recycling). But there are many people that don’t identify as a lady or a gentleman and it might be annoying to hear that almost every time you say “Ladies and gentleman”. Sometimes people won’t be bothered by people making a mistake, no hurt feelings. But others might be mad, so yah, hurt feelings.

I’m non-binary and I got annoyed when they said “Ladies and gentleman“ at airports when I traveled this summer. I groaned every time. Please consider doing what this letter says.

I realize that you might have been taught to say ladies and gentlemen, to show respect. I get that it’s very formal, so if you want to keep being formal and showing respect, then you can say “passengers” or “may I have your attention please” or “people” or “folks” or etc. etc. etc.

Thank you for reading this letter, and understanding.

If you need a better understanding about what a non-binary person is, then come to Non-binary forever . That is a link to my website about non-binary rights.
